Experience
Back to Health has been Fort Lauderdale and Broward County’s most comprehensive physical therapists for sports injuries since 2004. Our nearly 20-year sports injury rehabilitation experience has allowed us to treat thousands of athletic injuries sustained during competition or practice to become the best in functional restoration.
Sports Injury Treatment from Golf to Football
We use a mix of Yoga, Exercises and specialised equipment including fit balls, foam rollers and more. This equipment is designed specifically for promoting correct technique, appropriate resistance levels, and targeted exercises so you can really work your key areas and see results.
Our therapists also spend extra time teaching key muscle contraction techniques, which enables you to get more out of every Yoga and workout session.
Compassion
At Back to Health, compassion isn’t a word, it’s an essential skill. Positive energy is widely acknowledged by athletic therapists to foster faster healing. We don’t merely read a medical report to make a medical exercise assessment. Our experienced sports injury physical therapists take that little bit of extra time to learn your body’s specific issues by listening with care.
Types of Back & Neck Sports Injuries
Starting from the neck down, cervical spine injuries are generally sustained in contact sports such as football where any of the C1 through C7 vertebrae support the head and protect critical nerves in the spinal cord. Neck injuries are due to compressed nerves, degenerative joints, illness, or muscle strains which generally impact extension, flexion, lateral flexion, and rotation.
The upper back is often the least affected area due to rib cage support. Poor form in sports activities such as lifting weights can result in intercostal muscle strains. Our sports therapist’s knowledge in kinesiology can help you make the necessary adjustments in body efficiency to keep your back from further injury.
The lower back is under the most pressure as it carries the most weight. Constant wear and tear from lifting, running, and twisting, can result in Sciatica, to Repetitive Strain Injuries. Other lower back concerns are spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis.
Specific Sports Injury Physical Therapy Guidance
First and foremost, your Back to Health physiotherapist will educate you on treatment. In fact, did you know according to the National Institute of Health (NIH), controlled trials demonstrated exercise decreased lower back pain by 33 percent by way of strengthening, stretching, and aerobics.
Back to Health’s extensive knowledge in recovery and rehabilitation strengths include, kinesiology, strength and functional conditioning, core strengthening, ergonomic techniques, MedX lumbar extension and low-impact cardio.
Active Therapy Back Strength Rehab with MedX
The Core line of MedX are computerized testing & strengthening cervical and lumbar machines using a frictionless weight stack similar to what you would find in a gym, or locally. In the case of the MedX lumbar machine, there is strong evidence these devices are effective in treating lower back pain and augment overall rehabilitation through quantitative assessment training.
The peer-reviewed journal, American Journal of Sports Medicine published a study by a team of University of Florida researchers in which two subject groups received back rehabilitation with and without MedX treatment. The results of the study showed that the training group who received treatment on the MedX machine had significantly less lower back pain than the control group who did not receive MedX back treatment.
How does MedX Improve your back?
First, we work together to establish a baseline of your back strength. To do this, your athletic therapist uses safe tests and gauges your strain through software establishing a safe bio-mechanical range of motion. You simply exert incremental isometric back movement to a maximum pain-free point. The MedX machine detects everything from fatigue to how much pain-free motion you can exert.
What the MedX back machine improves
Again, referring to peer-review journals, the MedX lumbar machine has a long list of results. The medical benefits of MedX have been proven in multiple studies, with one study showing increases in bone mineral density and another proving its use in industrial settings to reduce disability. MedX is beneficial for geriatric patients as well!
MedX Exercise
Regain endurance, flexibility, stability, and strength gradually by using MedX twice a week for 20 minutes.
